ABOUT
The South Florida Agricultural Foundationwas chartered December 8, 2016 as a 501(c)(6) organization to foster educational and stewardship opportunities for in the South Florida agricultural industry. A Board of four directors governs the organization.
A vital mission of the South Florida Agricultural Foundation is to increase public awareness of Florida’s agricultural industries – including sugarcane, citrus, sweet corn, rice, celery and other crops through educational and stewardship opportunities.
We hosts tours of the sugarcane industry and other seasonal agricultural industries to educate congressional staff, USDA and other Executive agency staff. These staff tours are intended to educate those in the government who administer existing programs and set public policy which affect the sugar industry and other South Florida agricultural interests.
As most agricultural activities occur in the middle of the state, we also make an effort to educate our neighbors on both the east and west coasts of Florida. Local events are held with the objective of educating the public on methods used for planting, harvesting, transporting and processing area crops in order to address public questions or concerns.
Board members, other members, invited guests, local businesses in the industry and, in some cases the general public, may participate in our activities.
Our organization sponsors costs for all activities and there are no fees for participating in an activity.
SFAF activities are conducted year-round with farm tours in the spring and fall of each year.
